Washington Crossing Sprint Duathlon

Accepting race day registrations!

This duathlon will take place in the area General George Washington and his 2,400 Colonial troops made their historic night crossing of the choppy, icy Delaware River on December 25, 1776. They landed at Johnson's Ferry (now known as Washington Crossing State Park) and by 4 am began their march to Trenton to defeat the surprised mercenary Hessian troops. The victory of the Second Battle of Trenton occurred a week later on January 2, 1777. Washington led his men on a route the biking portion of the duathlon very closely resembles when they marched to Princeton to defeat the British there on January 3, 1777.
These are known as the "Ten Crucial Days," which provided much-needed victories for the Americans, who had had little good news up to this point. Enlistments were soon to expire and fighting was to let up for the winter, so the crossroads victories in New Jersey raised soldiers' and Colonists' spirits and kept their cause strong.
